Medomak girls, boys soccer bests Troy Howard

WALDOBORO — The middle school girls and boys soccer teams from Medomak and Troy Howard met on the pitch in Waldoboro on Monday, Sept. 30 for Busline League action. 

The regular season for Medomak will conclude when the Riverhawks host Great Salt Bay on Friday, Oct. 4.

Girls Soccer: Medomak 6, Troy Howard 1

After a hard fought match, the host Riverhawks earned a 6-1 victory. 

Medomak found the back of the net first 12 minutes into the game when Sara Nelson tallied a goal off an Eliza Luce assist. 

Three minutes later, Troy Howard scored its lone goal to tie the contest at 1-1. 

About 10 minutes later, Kytana Williamson scored a goal off a Luce assist to push the hosts up 2-1 into the halftime pause. 

Collecting second half goals for Medomak were Nelson, Sadie Knight (Audrey Jackson assist) and Jackson (Chloe Delano assist). 

“Great defense was played by Madison Boynton, Kendra Gladue, Devon Rainey, Samantha Christensen and Haley Puchalski,” said Medomak coach Andrea Williamson.

The first score for Medomak came via Slavick Moody, who dribbled through a trio of defenders before scoring. 

Kristian Schumann (assisted by Bruce Bossow) and Kolby Staples also collected first half goals for the hosts to push Medomak up 3-1 at the half. 

In the second half, Medomak continued to play solid offense, said Medomak coach Jackson Fortin, with great midfield play by Atticus Blue, Nevan Power, Vishal Mellor and Zan Nyguen.

The strikers continued to get shots off in the second half, Liam Belyea continued to add an aggressive attack for the Riverhawks and helped create second chance scoring opportunities, Fortin noted. 

On the defensive side of the ball, Asa Appleby, Kayden Genthner, Sebastian Smith, and Finn Kelly played well keeping the ball up front and rarely giving up any ground to the opposing offense, said Fortin. 

Schumann scored Medomak’s fourth goal of the contest in the second half. 

No information was available for Troy Howard. 

In goal, Kael Sidelinger tallied 16 saves.
