Mary Lesser exhibits 'Fascinated and Horrified' in Waldoboro
This month, Gravedigger’s Daughter is exhibiting large scale narrative paintings by Mary Lesser. An opening reception for Mary Lesser's "Fascinated & Horrified" will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 2 - 5 p.m., at Gravedigger’s Daughter.
"Fueled by the activism she embraced during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, New Haven-based Mary Lesser brings her brand of painting, with joyful palettes tempering the serious subjects of gun violence, war and refugees, and climate change and pollution, to Gravedigger’s Daughter this month," said Gravedigger's.
Born and raised in Washington D.C., Lesser has been going to art school since the age of eight. She received a B.A from Brandeis University where she majored in psychology and took many art courses. After studying for three years at the New York Studio School for Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture, and receiving a certificate in painting, Lesser went on to earn an MFA in Painting from Lesley University, College of Art and Design, in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2021 at the age of 79. Her work can be found in private and public collections. She has exhibited her work nationally in solo, invitational, and juried group shows.
