Three-car collision on Route 1 in Camden sends two to hospital
CAMDEN — A three-car collision on a stretch of Route 1 in Camden just after 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 resulted in two people being transported by North East Mobile Health Services ambulances to Pen Bay Hospital, in Rockport, with non-critical injuries.
The crash occurred at the Maine Dept. of Transportation's temporary construction traffic light near the Lincolnville town line. Camden Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene to find three damaged cars and five people needing medical help.
All three cars had been traveling northbound on Route 1. One was stopped at the red light, said Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley. Another car drove up behind it and failed to stop. And another car traveling right behind the second car also failed to stop, causing a chain of collisions.
Camden Exxon removed the three cars from the highway, and the two ambulances transported the injured to the hospital.
