Fred F. Hannan, obituary
ROCKLAND — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Fred F. Hannan, 40, who passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2024.
Fred was born October 1, 1984, the son of Butch Hannan and Holly Hill-Coombs. Fred was educated in Rockland Schools. He was a self-taught gardener, metal artist, and enjoyed using his hands to create things, particularly carving walking sticks and other wooden items. He loved knowing the things he made would bring joy to someone else.
His gardens were works of art, using limbs and vines, he created spectacular fencing. They were admired by all who were fortunate enough to see them. His metal work were creations of beauty that were straight from his heart. The roses, dragonflies and butterflies were each one of a kind, given as tokens from his heart.
Fred was a hard worker, always taking pride in his work and making sure he did the job right. He was proud to be part of the Performance Paving Family, first with Uno Ilvonen, whom Fred had immense respect for, and who took him under his wing and taught him the trade. He continued his paving career with Jacob llvonen when he took over the company. Fred's family will always be thankful for the love and kindness that the llvonen family gave to Fred through the years. They truly became part of his extended family.
Fred loved to fish, in a boat, from the shore, lake, stream, pond or ice, it didn't matter as long as he was fishing. He even carried a tackle with him in his work truck just in case a fishing opportunity presented itself.
Fred cherished the 1989 GMC Sierra truck he rebuilt with his dad. Even with prompting from friends and family, Fred refused to have it painted, wanting to keep it the way it was when they finished restoring it. He loved well-worn metal. The time Fred and his dad spent working on that truck will be forever cherished.
Family was very important to Fred. He had a close relationship with his sister Hillary Hannan; they were inseparable. He also held a special place in his heart for his longtime girlfriend Alissa Alden and their cats. His niece Madelynne Weaver could always talk him into going scavenging for old bottles and steel items; she truly loved spending time with her uncle.
Predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Jean and Freeland Hill; aunts and uncles, Janine and Dick Cash and Dennis and Barbara Hill; and cousins, Crystal Whitney, Laurice Whitney and Rick Cash; Fred is survived by parents, Holly Hill-Coombs and her husband Jim Coombs; Butch Hannan and his wife Angie Hannan; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Williams; sisters, Hillary Hannan, Amanda Catalano (Mike); brothers, Casey Hannan, Karl Coombs (Carissa); niece Madelynne Weaver; nephews, Lucas Feener, Mason and Levi Catalano; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large extended family.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Harbor Light Church, 78 Main Street, Rockland.
