Man charged with assaulting employees in emergency room
ROCKLAND - A St. George man was arrested on Oct. 6 for allegedly assaulting three employees at the Pen Bay Medical Center emergency room in Rockport
Isaiah Berry, 37, was charged with three counts of assault in an emergency room and one count of disorderly conduct. He was arrested by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Knox County Jail where his bail was initially set at $5,000 cash.
Berry made his initial appearance Oct. 7 in Knox County Court where Judge Sarah Gilbert set his bail at $2,500 cash. His bail conditions include that he cannot return to Pen Bay Medical Center unless for a medical emergency and must report daily to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Three security guards were injured during the assault and one employee was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion. Another employee was struck in the face with a closed fist and his eyeglasses were broken.
When police arrived at the hospital several nurses, and security and maintenance staff were on top of Berry, holding him on the ground, according to the affidavit filed in court by Rockport Police.
Police reported in the court document that the assaults occurred on Dec. 22, 2023. The criminal complaint was not filed in court until Feb. 28 and the arrest warrant was then issued. Berry had been undergoing psychiatric treatment at the hospital and his release date was not included in the court document.
Two Rockport Police officers and a Camden Police officer responded to the scene.
Berry will appear in court again Dec. 12 for a dispositional conference.
