Maine State Police Troop D beat: Traffic violations, burglaries, marijuana

    AUGUSTA — Maine State Police Troop D reported the following activity Aug. 9 - Sept. 3. Troop D is responsible for Maine's Midcoast, including Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, and Knox counties, the southern half of Kennebec County and part of northern Cumberland County. The troop also patrols Interstate 295, from Brunswick to Gardiner. The troop's complement includes a lieutenant, three sergeants, 25 troopers and a secretary. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    Aug. 9

    Sergeant Field, and Troopers James Leonard and Seth Allen responded to Mud Mill Road in Chelsea for the report of criminal mischief. Following investigation, Scott Howard, 30, was arrested for criminal mischief and violating conditions of release. Howard's mother, Angela Howard, 50, was arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration.

    Aug. 11

    Trooper Sarah Ferland issued a summons to Shirley Dunham, 26, of Knox, for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

    Trooper Mark Ferreira assisted Trooper James Moore with a domestic incident in China. Following investigation Sean Keefe, 49, of China, was arrested for operating under the influence, operating after suspension and violating conditions of release.

    Aug. 12

    Trooper Mark Ferreira stopped Thomas Mansir, 39, of Augusta, for operating after suspension on Route 201 in Gardiner. Mansir was issued a summons for operating after suspension.

    Trooper Ferreira stopped Erika Lenentine, 26, of Gardiner, for operating after suspension on Route 201 in Gardiner. Lenentine was issued a summons for operating after suspension and released from the scene.

    Troopers Bethany Robinson and Eric Verhille stopped a road rage incident on Hospital Street in Augusta. Tabitha Stevens, of Gardiner, was ultimately arrested for operating under the influence, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving to endanger.

    Trooper Kyle Pelletier stopped Emily Marois, 22, on Route 105 in Augusta for operating a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. The vehicle's registration was also expired (150+ days). Marois was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Allen stopped Thomas Mansir, 38, of Augusta, in Gardiner for operating after suspension. Mansir was arrested for the offense.

    Aug. 14

    Trooper Allen stopped Jesse Knox, 24, in Randolph for squealing his tires while he pulled out of a parking lot. Knox was ultimately issued summonses for excessive noise, failure to display an inspection sticker and operating a defective motor vehicle. Knox was released from the scene and the vehicle was towed.

    Trooper Allen stopped Matthew Burk, 26, in Chelsea for displaying an inspection sticker that was an incorrect shade of green. Burk was issued a summons for displaying a fictitious sticker.

    Trooper Nicolas Gleeson stopped a vehicle travelling 72 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9 in Chelsea. Josh Brougham, 28, of Farmingdale was found to be operating after his license had been suspended and he was issued summonses for speeding and operating after suspension.

    Trooper Thomas Bureau stopped Devon Pease, 21, on Route 1A in Prospect for a speed violation. Upon further investigation Trooper Bureau discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol in the vehicle. Pease was arrested for violating conditions of release and issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. Passenger Nathaniel Cowperthwaite, 18, was issued summonses for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Trooper Bethany Robinson received information about someone growing marijuana on their property in Albion. Contact was made with Susan Crabbe, 59, who possessed a valid marijuana card; however Crabbe was out of compliance, police said. Crabbe was ultimately issued a summons for cultivating marijuana.

    Trooper Niles Krech stopped a vehicle for speeding just off I-295 in Bowdoinham. Trooper Krech discovered that a passenger in the vehicle, Jesse Daeira, 21, had two warrants and he was arrested and transported to Two Bridges Jail without incident.

    Aug. 15

    Trooper Allen stopped Nickalaus Mills, 27, in West Gardiner for having blue headlights. Marijuana could be smelled emitting from inside the vehicle and Mills was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Trooper Allen stopped Casey Weeks, 29, in West Gardiner for an inspection violation. At the time of the stop Weeks' license was suspended and he was issued a summons for the offense and left his vehicle parked in a store parking lot.

    Aug. 16

    Sergeant Patrick Hood attempted to stop a vehicle on Swan Lake Avenue for not displaying an inspection sticker. The operator made an attempt to avoid being stopped by speeding away on a side road but ran off the road due to excessive speed. Following investigation Nathan McClure, 34, of Swanville, was charged with operating under the influence and operating without a license.

    Trooper Ferland avoided a head-on collision due to Mathew Garber, 25, of Portland, improperly passing another vehicle on Route 1A in Searsport, police said. After admitting to drinking, Garber was arrested and transported to Waldo County Jail. Further investigation revealed that Garber was operating under the influence of intoxicants. Garber was also issued summonses for possession of a useable amount of marijuana, sale and use of drug paraphernalia, driving to endanger and failing to obtain a license (90+ days).

    Aug. 17

    Trooper Gleeson stopped a vehicle for an expired inspection sticker on I-295 in Gardiner. Cynthia Hyde, 43, of Skowhegan, was found to be operating after suspension. Hyde was issued summonses for the offenses.

    Aug. 19

    Troopers Pelletier and Ferreira responded to the Cup and Cruise on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale for a domestic incident. The complainant reported that he and his wife were having marital issues. Both parties were separated.

    Sergeant Hood responded to Vancycle Road in Lincolnville for a report of suspicious activity near the Ararat Farm stand. Two female employees of the farm reported seeing a male on a black Harley Davidson style motorcycle make several passes through the area as the women were walking from the stand back to the farm.

    Trooper Christopher Rogers stopped George Callahan, 40, on Spears Corner Road in West Gardiner for an inspection sticker violation. Callahan's license was suspended in Maine and Connecticut and he had been summonsed multiple times in the past for operating after suspension. Callahan was arrested and transported to the Kennebec County Jail.

    Aug. 20

    Trooper Ball responded to a late report of a theft in Litchfield. The complainant stated someone had stolen a green and black fiberglass canoe and two fiberglass paddles. Investigation continues.

    Trooper Ball responded to Huntington Hill Rd in Litchfield for a suicidal male.

    Aug. 21

    Troopers Krech, Ball and Gleason along with the Kennebec Sheriff's Office assisted the Gardiner Police Department in a two-hour search and apprehension of the Rite Aid Pharmacy robbery suspect from earlier in the day.

    Trooper Ferreira stopped a vehicle on Route 197 in Litchfield for displaying an expired inspection sticker. Further investigation revealed that Brandon Musial, 29, of Monmouth, had a suspended license status and he was issued a summons for the offense.

    Aug. 22

    Sergeant Hood stopped Jacob Weeks, 29, of Lincolnville, on Route 52 in Camden after he was observed to be speeding as he came up behind the unmarked State Police cruiser. He was issued a summons for criminal speed and released.

    Trooper Rogers received four 911 calls about a vehicle operating erratically from Portland, north on I-295. The vehicle was located in West Gardiner and stopped for speeding and poor operation. 

    Aug. 23

    Trooper Rogers stopped Kenneth Childs, 40, on Academy Road in Litchfield for an inspection sticker violation. Childs' license was under suspension, his inspection sticker was found to be fake, his 2015 registration stickers were illegally attached and his registration was expired (150+ days). Ultimately Childs was arrested and transported to the Kennebec County Jail.

    Troopers Pelletier and Trooper Wing responded to Litchfield for a domestic incident. The complainant reported that he and his girlfriend had a verbal argument about finances. Both parties were separated for the evening.

    Aug. 24

    Trooper Ferreira stopped a vehicle on Route 197 in Litchfield for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker. Further investigation revealed that Jeffrey Richards, 48, of Bowdoin, had a revoked license, the vehicle's plates were falsely attached and the inspection sticker was fictitious. Richards was arrested and transported to Kennebec County Jail.

    Troopers Rogers and Pelletier received a traffic complaint of a driver possibly operating under the influence in the Litchfield/West Gardiner area. The vehicle was located on Route 126 and stopped by Trooper Rogers in Sabattus. Chantal Peterson, 45, was highly intoxicated and was ultimately charged with operating under the influence and operating with an open container.

    Troop D Detectives investigated a burglary at Cousins Saw Mill in Windsor. A suspect has been identified and the investigation continues.

    Aug. 25

    Troopers Wuthenow took a report of trespassing at Lincolnville Family Dentistry. Meggie Boreanaz, 51, was issued a No Trespass notice from the facility.

    Trooper Allen arrested Marcie Whitten, 35, in Litchfield on a warrant for failure to appear.

    Aug. 26

    Trooper Allen stopped a vehicle on Pond Road in Manchester for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker. Abraham Snowman, 29, admitted to buying the sticker and was issued a summons for the offense.

    Sergeant Mills stopped John Seidl, 54, of Liberty, for speeding on Route 3 in China. Sergeant Mills detected the odor of intoxicants and signs of impairment. Seidl was ultimately arrest for operating under the influence.

    Trooper Ball served Logan Gardner, 20, of Litchfield, with a No Trespass order for his father's property on Pine Tree Road.

    Trooper Ball stopped Julia Olko, 18, for speeding 41 mph in a 25 mph zone in Litchfield. Trooper Ball detected a strong odor of fresh marijuana. Following investigation, Olko was issued summonses for possession of a usable amount of marijuana, sale and use of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a schedule X drug.

    Trooper Ferland stopped Tamarack Thomsen, 23, of Belfast, for speeding on his motorcycle on Lincolnville Road in Searsmont. It was discovered that Thomsen was on bail conditions from 2013 and had failed to register his motorcycle since May, 2013. Thomsen was issued summonses accordingly.

    Aug. 27

    Troopers Ferland and Donald Webber investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle that was parked on private property on Trues Pond Road in Liberty. Following investigation, Broch Bissonette, 33, was issued a summons for possessing a usable amount of marijuana.

    Trooper Allen stopped Brandon Ridley, 38, in Litchfield for speeding. Ridley was issued a summons for operating with an expired license greater (90+ days) and made arrangements to get a ride.

    Trooper Bureau stopped Charles Green, 43, for a speed violation on Route 3 in Searsmont. Green was found in possession of a usable amount of marijuana and was issued a summons for the offense.

    Aug. 28

    Trooper Wuthenow conducted a traffic stop on Route 3 in Belmont of a vehicle that was going 59 mph in a 40 mph zone. Upon investigation, a useable amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle and Lydia Futcher, 22, was issued summonses for possession of a useable amount of marijuana and the speeding violation.

    Trooper Pelletier issued Eric Larsen, 54, a summons for negotiating a worthless instrument for writing a bad check to Fuller's Market in West Gardiner on June 16.

    Trooper Corey Smith received a report of a suspected drunk driver on New England Road in Searsmont who lost control of his car and struck trees before fleeing. Following investigation, Gary Morse, 61, was charged with operating under the influence, failure to notify the owner of a property damage accident, illegal attachment and failure to provide proof of insurance as a result of the investigation.

    Aug. 29

    Trooper Smith received a report of a runaway from Ironwood in Morrill. The juvenile was located in the afternoon at a residence in Knox and returned to the program.

    Trooper Smith received a report of identity theft in Searsmont. The complainant reported receiving collection letters for a Discover account he does not hold. The investigation is ongoing.

    Trooper Smith received a report of a theft in Northport. The owner of the Hideaway Diner reported the 'Hideaway Diner' sign was discovered missing on Aug. 27. She described the sign as six feet tall and two feet wide. In addition to the name of the restaurant, the sign had a lighthouse on it.

    Trooper Smith received a report of a theft from a storage facility in Belmont. Investigation is ongoing.

    Trooper Gleeson stopped a vehicle travelling northbound on I-295 with an expired inspection sticker. Jeffrey Thompson, 35, of Waterville was found to operating after suspension and he was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Christopher Rogers stopped a male juvenile on I-295 in Richmond for speeding 103 mph. The teen was issued a summons for criminal speed and released.

    Trooper Wuthenow took a report of theft in Waldo. The complainant reported that her boyfriend's tools had been stolen out of the garage. Investigation is ongoing.

    Trooper Pelletier stopped Alexander Dudley, 19, on I-295 in Gardiner for speeding. A search of Dudley's vehicle produced a usable amount of marijuana and two marijuana pipes. Dudley was issued summonses for both offenses.

    Trooper Pelletier responded to an assault that occurred on the Wentzell Road in Litchfield. No charges were issued as the victim was uncooperative.

    Trooper Ball stopped Joseph Parker, 35, on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale for an expired inspection sticker. Trooper Ball detected an odor of fresh marijuana and Parker's vehicle was searched. Parker was ultimately charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana, sale and use of drug paraphernalia. Parker also was driving on a suspended license and had a warrant for his arrest and he was arrested without incident.

    Trooper Ball charged Amanda Wallace, 24, of Gardiner, with harassment and harassment by telephone.

    Trooper Ball responded to a vandalism complaint at Nadeau's Marine in Litchfield. Investigation is ongoing.

    Aug. 30

    Trooper Allen stopped a vehicle on Route 32 in Windsor for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker. Darryl Coskery, 52, was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Pelletier investigated a gas drive off at Fuller's Market in West Gardiner.

    Aug. 31

    Trooper Wuthenow charged a female juvenile with criminal mischief to a residence in Palermo.

    Trooper Rogers stopped David Chubbock, 33, on Route 32 in Windsor for speeding. Investigation revealed his license was under suspension and Chubbock was summonsed for the offense. A licensed driver drove his vehicle from the scene.

    Trooper Rogers stopped a vehicle on Route 27 in Pittston for a seatbelt violation. Passenger Patrick Moore, 29, had a warrant for his arrest and he was arrested and taken to Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset.

    Trooper Rogers stopped Kip Patten, 24, on Route 126 in Whitefield for not wearing his seatbelt. Investigation revealed his license was under suspension and was issued a summons for the offense.

    Sept. 1

    Trooper Allen responded to a burglary complaint at the Route 32 car wash in China. Investigation is ongoing.

    Trooper Allen summonsed Coree Peters, 35, for stealing drugs and possession of schedule Z drugs.

    Trooper Allen stopped Jay Fortin, 23, in China for a seatbelt violation. Fortin's license was under suspension and he was issued summonses for operating after suspension and a seatbelt violation. Fortin's truck was towed.

    Trooper Allen stopped Ryan Derby, 20, in Albion for an inspection violation. A six pack of beer could be seen in the back seat. Following investigation, Derby was issued summonses for a minor transporting liquor and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Trooper Allen stopped Joshua Karr, 26, in China for speeding. Following investigation, Karr was issued summonses for attaching false plates and displaying a fictitious vehicle certificate.

    Trooper Elisha Fowlie is currently investigating two burglaries in the towns of Bowdoin and Richmond.
