Maine State Police Troop D beat: False plates, riding in the trunk

    AUGUSTA — Maine State Police Troop D reported the following activity May 27 - June 15. Troop D is responsible for Maine's Midcoast, including Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, and Knox counties, the southern half of Kennebec County and part of northern Cumberland County. The troop also patrols Interstate 295, from Brunswick to Gardiner. The troop's complement includes a lieutenant, three sergeants, 25 troopers and a secretary. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    May 27

    Trooper James Moore took a complaint of a hit-and-run accident on Collins Mills Road in West Gardiner. Following investigation, Trooper Moore charged a 17-year-old male juvenile from Wiscasset with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to report an accident by quickest means.

    June 2

    Trooper Bethany Robinson stopped Anthony Jewett, 30, of Liberty, on Route 3 in Liberty for a vehicle defect. Jewett was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and was issued a summons for sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

    June 3

    Trooper Nicolas Gleeson stopped a vehicle on I-295 South in West Gardiner for failure to display an inspection sticker. Karyn Bournival, 51, of Bath, had moved to Maine over a year earlier and failed to obtain a Maine driver's license. She was issued a summons for the offense.

    June 4

    Trooper Niles Krech stopped a vehicle on Old Bath Road in Brunswick for speeding on Route 1. Alexander Normand, 28, had allegedly been drinking shortly before operating his vehicle and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. Normand was arrested for operating under the influence.

    June 5

    Trooper Gleeson stopped a vehicle on I-295 South in West Gardiner for expired registration stickers. Andrea Anderson, 23, of Old Town, was operating with a license that expired over 90 days prior. She was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Benjamin Sweeney charged Tracey Oliver, 36, of Brooks, with criminal mischief.

    June 6

    Trooper Sweeney initiated a traffic stop on Route 3 in Belmont for speed. Investigation revealed that Samuel Hancock, 31, of Nobleboro, was in possession of drug paraphernalia and he was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Gleeson stopped a vehicle on I-295 South in Richmond for expired registration stickers. Brian Paul, 49, of Hampden, had failed to register the vehicle for over 150 days and he was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper Donald Webber stopped Jonathan Grant, 33, of Windsor, on Route 17 in Windsor. Trooper Webber determined that Grant had a felony warrant out of Connecticut. Extradition was approved and Grant was arrested and taken to the Kennebec County Jail where he was held and charged with being a fugitive from justice.

    Trooper Sarah Ferland stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 3 in Liberty. Investigation revealed Cassandra Grotton, 18, of Liberty, had moved from Florida to Maine in Sept. 2013, but had failed to obtain a valid Maine license. Grotton was issued a summons for failing to obtain a driver's license.

    Trooper Mark Ferreira stopped William Grondin, 52, of Augusta, on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale for displaying a fake inspection sticker. William was issued a summons for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker.

    Trooper Ferreira encountered a vehicle in Randolph with an expired inspection sticker. Keith Childs, 44, of Chelsea, had a suspended license and the registration plates on the vehicle also did not match the vehicle's description on the registration. Childs was issued summonses for operating after suspension and attaching false plates.

    June 8

    Trooper James Leonard stopped a vehicle for speeding 70 mph in a 60 mph zone. Following investigation and a vehicle search, Stevenson Cushing, 24, of Durham, was issued summonses for violating conditions of release and trafficking in a schedule Z drug.

    June 9

    Trooper Seth Allen stopped Tyson Bernard, 20, in Bowdoinham for displaying an expired registration. Bernard was issued a summons for operating with expired registration 150+ days.

    Trooper Gleeson responded to Damon's Quick Stop in Chelsea for the report of a gas drive-off. Trooper Gleeson passed and stopped the suspect vehicle on Route 9 in Chelsea. Aaron Miller, 24, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and was operating without a license. Passenger Joseph Fisher, 23, was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were issued summonses according to their offenses. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    June 10

    Troopers Gleeson, Eric Verhille, John Lacoste, Webber and Krech, along with Maine State Police Sergeant Jeffrey Mills and a Kennebec County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to Kinderhook Street in Randolph for a report from a distressed female. The woman stated Richard Moody, 45, was making threats towards her and any police that came to the house. Contact was made with Moody, who was found to be in possession of marijuana and related paraphernalia. Moody was issued summonses accordingly and left the area on his own.

    June 10

    Trooper Corey Smith stopped a vehicle in Thorndike for a traffic violation. Preston Cole, 39, of Thorndike, was arrested on an outstanding warrant without incident.

    Trooper's Bethany Robinson, Thomas Bureau, and Evan Teel responded to Hodges Lane in Albion for a reported domestic violence situation. Following investigation Brittany Hodges, 23, was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault.

    June 11

    Troopers Ferland and Webber responded to an unattended death in Jackson.

    Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock responded to a violation of conditional release complaint on Depot Street in Unity. Ryan Drake, 35, of Troy, was arrested and charged with violation of conditional release.

    Trooper Gleeson and Corporal Madore responded to Fairview Estates in Randolph to conduct a welfare check.

    June 12

    Trooper Ferland arrested Zachary Bennett, 26, of Brooks, on an arrest warrant for failure to pay fines.

    Trooper Krech stopped Daniel Rush, 27, in Gardiner after hearing that Rush was driving through the town with Staci King, 27, in the trunk of the vehicle. King was removed from the trunk of the vehicle and placed under arrest for her four active warrants. Rush was arrested for two charges of unlawful possession of a schedule X drugs, unlawful possession of a schedule Z drug and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

    June 13

    Trooper Kyle Pelletier stopped Jared Coffin, 26, on Route 3 in Montville for criminal speed and he was issued a summons for the offense.

    Trooper's Robinson and Jesse Duda responded to South Freedom Road in Albion for a reported domestic violence situation. Bryan Rood, 32, had reportedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend. Rood was arrested for domestic violence assault issued a summons for sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

    Trooper Allen stopped Ashley Day, 25, in Chelsea for a vehicle defect. A search of the vehicle revealed several items of drug paraphernalia and she was issued summonses accordingly.

    June 14

    Trooper Allen stopped Scott Howard, 30, in Gardiner. Howard performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests was ultimately charged with operating under the influence.

    Trooper Bureau responded to the Myrick Road in Troy for a reported domestic violence disturbance. Following investigation, Cassandra A. Smith, 24, was arrested for domestic violence assault.

    June 15

    Trooper Gleeson stopped a vehicle on Route 9 in Chelsea for failure to display an inspection sticker. The operator, Stacey Ricker, 30, stated there was a warrant for his arrest and records indicated Ricker was correct. He was arrested on the warrant and transported to Kennebec County Jail.
