Lincolnville Select Board to address harbor fees, Waldo County 55 percent budget increase, sidewalk planning
Lincolnville's Select Board will meet Dec. 8, at 6 p.m., at the Lincolnville Town Office, and tend to a full agenda that ranges from hearing property tax abatement requests and the Waldo County budget to harbor fees, sidewalk planning, and the town's own budget process.
For a complete pre-meeting memo about the various agenda items, see Town Administrator David Kinney's Dec. 5 Newsletter that is included in the Dec. 8 Select Board's meeting packet.
Concerning the Waldo County Budget, Kinney pointed out:
"The 2026 Waldo County Budget is set for a public hearing on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the Waldo County Commissioners Courtroom located at 39B Spring Street inBelfast as well as remotely via Zoom. The agenda for the meeting is enclosed along with the proposed budget.
"Excluding the jail budget which is capped by legislation, the Total County Budget is proposed to increase by 55.66% (36.27% including the jail budget). In addition, the projected non-county tax revenues are proposed to decrease. If the budget increases and non-tax revenues decrease this likely means that property taxpayers in the County will see a substantial increase in property taxes. I would suggest that the Select Board members attend the public hearing (if three or more of you can attend I will prepare an agenda) and that you contact other communities and encourage their attendance at the hearing."
According to Waldo County, the proposed 2026 budget (including the jail) is to increase from $12.8 million to $17.4 million.
The full budget is also included in the pre-meeting packet.
