VINALHAVEN — It was another step closer to a successful season for the Lynx of Lincolnville as they defeated the Vinalhaven Vikings 5-0 on the road Monday, Sept. 23

While Lincolnville dominated the first half, the scrappy Vikings defense forced a number of Lynx offensive errors that kept the score down.

In fact, it was a 1-0 game for most of the half after the Lynx scored with 5:27 gone off a short goal kick that was controlled by striker Owen McManus and slipped quickly to winger Mikayla Talbot on the far side of the net. She nailed it in next to the unguarded far post.

It took Lincolnville almost 20 more minutes before they could net another one. That play was initiated by a clear up to winger Jaden Johnson who then sent the ball on to midfielder Mason Clark who had executed an overlap run to Johnson’s right. Clark drove the sideline before sending a fine cross to McManus who tipped the ball in for the tally.

The Lynx finally found the key to unlock the Vikings’ defense at 33:59 in the second half when Talbot sent a pass into Clark in the middle who hammered a shot from 30 yards out that beat the keeper to his right.

A mere five minutes later Clark picked up a ball at the top of a scrum in the box, found an opening to penetrate on the right, made a smooth move to shift the ball to his right foot and cut his shot back across the goal to the far post to rack up his second of the game.

Just under a minute later, defender Chloe Day-Lynch sent a clear up to Johnson again who passed it on to McManus. He managed to glide his way through the defense before sending it home once more.

The remaining 20 minutes of the game played more evenly with multiple efforts by both sides before the final whistle brought the game to a close.
