ST. GEORGE- Two men remain in jail after being arrested by Knox County Sheriff deputies for allegedly trafficking drugs at a St. George residence.
On the morning of October 2 at approximately 7:48 a.m., Knox County deputies, along with law enforcement officers from the Rockland Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence on River Road in Saint George.
During the search, deputies seized several contraband items, including firearms, illicit drugs, drug paraphernalia, and illicit drug sales proceeds, said Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky in a press release.
Marc Montplaisir, 63, of Saint George, was arrested and booked at the Knox County Jail for aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs. Michael J. Phillips, 45, of New York, was arrested and booked for aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Phillips is a convicted felon, according to a court document.
The men made their initial court appearances in Knox County Court on Friday afternoon, Oct. 3. The judge set Montplaisir’s bail at $25,000 and Phillips’ bail at $100,000 cash. Montplaisir will be on supervised release after he posts bail.
As of Oct. 7, Montplaisir remains at the Knox County Jail and Phillips was transferred from Knox County to the Twin Bridges Jail in Wiscasset on the same day.
The affidavit filed in court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, states the details of the investigation that first began after police received anonymous information about the reports of increase vehicle traffic at the residence owned by Montplaisir. Police stopped multiple vehicles from the residence which resulted in the discovery of illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
When police executed the search warrant at the St. George residence, Montplaisir told police that beginning about eight months ago he began housing out of state drug dealers to pay off a drug debt. He also said he has been facilitating drug deals, according to the court document.
Police said that Phillips was living in an upstairs bedroom where 10 bags of white powder, cocaine, and several handguns were recovered.
Montplaisir consented to a search of his cell phone. Police found multiple messages to people setting up deals to sell drugs. He said that on a recent day they sold one to two ounces of cocaine to about six customers.
Montplaisir is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 11 for a dispositional conference.
