One of the most important things to Julie was making memories with her family. She made a point of taking a special trip with each of her children and grandchildren until her health no longer allowed her to continue. She took her son sailing in Maine, one of her daughters to Nashville to listen to live music, and her other daughter to the Mall of America in Minneapolis to go shopping. These trips were her way of spending time together and creating memories that her family will treasure.

Julie loved the mountains and the sea, but her favorite place to be was with her pets. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing good food with others. She was also talented at knitting and almost always had a project in progress and another one in mind. She enjoyed making clothing and other things for her children and grandchildren, often putting her time and talents into something made especially for someone she loved. She was thoughtful about giving gifts, too, and took pleasure in finding something she knew would make someone happy.

Julie was hardworking and independent, with a generous heart and a love for her family that she expressed in many practical and memorable ways. Her family will remember not only the things she made and gave, but also the time she made for them and the memories they shared together.

Julie is survived by her three children, Joseph (Heather) Garten, Sarah (Andrew) Hanna, and Kate Bowles; her cherished grandchildren, Dustin (Madison) Hanna, Dean Hanna, Brandon Bowles, Kayla Bowles, Daisy Garten, Dixie Hanna, Fern Garten, Carrie Anne Garten, Isaiah Garten, and Carter Bowles; her mother, Annette Huffman; her sister, Terry Prewitt; and her niece, Roxanne Prewitt.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Huffman; and her brother-in-law Ron Prewitt.

In accordance with Julie’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held in place of a traditional funeral service.
