Curtis Elwell, obituary
BELFAST — Curtis Elwell, 69, of Belfast, passed away on November 12, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 21, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Shortly after his birth, his parents, Edward and Ruby Elwell, moved to Belfast, Maine. Curtis graduated from Belfast Area High School. He joined the Air Force in 1974. While stationed in Indiana he married Cathy Nichols and they had four children. Curtis and his family later moved back to Maine where he worked as a Master Plumber.
He gained a reputation as a fair and honest plumber responding to calls on holidays or late-night issues. He was later joined by his son Brad in his work as a plumber. Curtis lived just long enough to see his son become a Master Plumber and passed away the day after Brad got his Master Plumbers License. It was a proud moment for Curtis. He was well known for his kindness and his gentle nature.
After his first marriage ended, he met Monique Couture. They later became engaged and spent many happy years together until his passing. Together, they raised their granddaughter Amelia. Curtis was a Christian and spent many hours reading his bible and drew comfort in its teachings. He passed listening to scripture.
Curtis is survived by his loving fiancée, Monique Couture; his children, Ryan, Bradley, Evan, Kara Elwell, and Katrina Walls Grindle; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his siblings, Ed and his wife, Lisa, and his sister Kathy; his loving aunt, Deborah Igo, who encouraged him to seek the Lord, and his extended family. He will be remembered by special friends Ervin Price and Loyd Marlow.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Ruby Elwell; his sister Elizabeth; and his brother-in-law David.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 2-4 p.m., at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, Maine 04915.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the spring.
