Crews respond to house fire in Thomaston, Rockport tends to slideoffs during Dec. 2 storm
THOMASTON — Thomaston firefighters and their mutual aid encountered heavy smoke inside a residence at 63 Dexter Street, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025. The fire crews were called to the scene at approximately 12:40 p.m. during a heavy coastal rainstorm that turned to a snow/rain mix in West Rockport, and to snow further inland.
All occupants of the residence were able to evacuate on their own, and no injuries were reported.
Dexter Street was closed to traffic from Route 1 to Old County Road, courtesy of Thomaston Police.
Firefighters represented the towns of Warren, Waldoboro, South Thomaston, Cushing, Rockland, and Thomaston.
The Red Cross has been notified, and the Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
This property is also the location of a shed fire that occured among of string of small fires in October 2024 that investigators determined to be arson.
A major snowstorm had been forecasted for this day, with some accumulation predictions varying from 6-9 inches to 4-7 inches, and some meteorologists predicting a band of all rain along the immediate coastline.
Rockport Fire and EMS entered into a flurry of activity, starting with a car into a ditch near 169 Mount Pleasant Street at approximately 11:15 a.m. While still on scene, some personnel were sent to a vehicle off the road near Grassy Pond (Route 17), at approximately 11:22 a.m. Soon after, NorthEast Mobile Health and Lincolnville FD responded to a one-vehicle incident. Rockland PD handled a car in the ditch at 11:49 a.m., near the Gurney Street/Mill Street intersection, and then dealt with another vehicle on Rockland Street in Rockport at 12:05 p.m. Rockport FD then responded to another call – a car on its side, west of the trailhead on Route 17 – at around 12:20 p.m.
