World Aids Day Candlelight Vigil at Post Office Square, Dec. 2
December 1 is the 37th anniversary of World AIDS Day.
A candlelight vigil will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 4:30 -5 p.m., in front of the Post Office in Belfast, to remember those we have lost and honor those who are living with HIV/AIDS.
"Lack of equity in the world continues and defunding by our government devastating, with nations who are facing the effects of war and climate collapse and millions of displaced people at most risk," said Meredith Bruskin, in a news release. "And here in the United States we are seeing increased risk of new HIV spread with the opioid epidemic as well as the increased attacks on the Gay community and women which make it more difficult to access treatment. Even in Bangor Maine, there has been a surge of HIV diagnoses this past year. We come together Dec. 2 (a day late due to holiday conflicts) to express solidarity with the worldwide fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to remember the people we have lost.
"Camp Chrysalis, a summer camp for 15 years for the children and families of people affected by HIV/AIDS here in Maine, continues to support our camp family who thrive with HIV and remember the many loved ones we have lost."
