UPDATE: Red Tundra not involved in investigation
CAMDEN — Camden Detective Aaron Bailey said Monday morning, Nov. 24, that the owner of the red Tundra whom Camden Police had been seeking came to police headquarters today.
"After speaking with the owner and then talking to another member of the public who saw that owner that evening, it is confirmed that the vehicle has nothing to do with the alleged robbery on Atlantic Ave.," said Bailey.
Bailey said he is still investigating a suspected Nov. 12 armed robbery on Atlantic Ave., but the PD has concluded that another incident, a reported attack that allegedly took place on Washington Street on Nov. 13, is unsubstantiated.
"We cannot substantiate that an assault occured," said Bailey. But, he added, "there is no reason not to believe the first attack [Nov. 12 on Atlantic Ave.] took place."
The Atlantic Ave. incident took place at approximately 10 p.m., Nov. 12 and was reported to police.
Bailey said the investigation into the latter case continues and the PD welcomes information.
The Camden Police Department is looking for assistance from the public in its attempts to speak to the operator of a Toyota Tundra (see above photo) that was seen in the area at the time of a robbery on the evening of November 12 at approximately 9:40 p.m.
This incident is still under investigation and no additional information is provided at this time, said Camden PD, Nov. 21.
If you have information, call Det. Sgt. Bailey at the Camden Police Department (207-236-7953 x113)
On Nov. 13, the Camden Police Dept. issued a press release notifying the public that it was investigating a suspected armed robbery on Atlantic Ave. The PD is also investigating another incident, an attack that allegedly took place on Washington Street.
They appear to be unrelated, said Det. Sgt. Aaron Bailey, on Nov. 17.
But comments on social media are referencing more attacks, going back to Halloween and earlier in November.
That leaves Sgt. Bailey frustrated that those incidents have not been reported to law enforcement, yet are cited on social media.
"If this is what is happening, come forward," he urges the public. "Let's be a safe community."
He said if reports of the crimes are not reported to police, it is hard to investigate.
"If we cannot get the information, we cannot investigate," he said.
Bailey said the Washington Street and Atlantic Ave. incidents, while occuring over consecutive nights, are different.
"They are clearly separate incidents," he said. "They are not identical."
The person involved in the Washington Street incident has yet to formally report to the police about what happened.
The Atlantic Ave. incident took place at approximately 10 p.m., Nov. 12. That one was reported to PD.
"After notifying a friend, the victim was brought to the Camden Police Department to report the incident," said Camden Police, in a Nov. 13 news release. "After speaking with the Officer on duty, the victim was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center for evaluation due to complaints of pain from the attack."
Atlantic Avenue is a short, one-way street that runs along the head of Camden's Inner Harbor, intersecting at one end with Main Street (Route 1) and Sea Street, at the other end.
"If anyone witnessed anything out of the ordinary in that area last night, they are urged to contact Det. Sgt. Bailey at the Camden Police Department (207-236-7953 x113)," Camden PD said.
