One injury following three vehicle crash outside Transfer Station in Union
UNION — Extrication of a driver took firefighters at least 25 minutes, Friday afternoon, following a three-vehicle crash in Union. The doors that weren't dented in were pressed against some trees.
That person was transported to a local hospital and two other drivers declined further medical attention. A dog was also in one of the vehicles; the dog was not reported to be injured.
The crash, involving a logging truck and two private vehicles, occured at approximately 4:05 p.m., just outside the Union Transfer Station, 3519 Heald Highway (Route 17).
Some Union firefighters redirected westbound traffic along Shepard Hill Road, while Washington Fire Dept. blocked traffic at Route 17 and 220.
Other Union firefighters tended to the crash scene, as did EMS from both Union ambulances and a Waldoboro ambulance. Knox County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, and because the logging truck is a commercial vehicle, State Police were required to investigate the scene as well. Coincidently, the responding State Police trooper had been at a different incident in Rockland as part of a crash reconstruction crew.
Camden Exxon hauled away both of the private vehicles, with one on the flatbed and the other towed behind.
AutoMaster Towing put two of its wreckers into use pulling the logging truck back to the road.
Heald Highway reopened to traffic at 6:55 p.m.
