City of Rockland funds newly created Taxpayer Assistance Program
On Monday, March 9, the Rockland City Council approved $200,000 of funding for the newly created Rockland Taxpayer Assistance Program. The program was established on February 9, 2026, in accordance with Ordinance Amendment #61, to provide property tax assistance to Rockland residents who meet certain criteria.
“The Rockland Taxpayer Assistance Program reflects the City’s commitment to making sure longtime residents - particularly seniors and those facing income challenges - are not priced out of their homes as property values rise,” said Mayor Adam Lachman, in a City news release. “By providing targeted relief to residents who qualify, this program helps Rockland remain a place where the people who have invested their lives in this community can continue to live with stability and dignity.”
In order to receive this specific property tax relief, applicants must
- Be 65 years or older, or be the recipient of Social Security Disability Insurance as of the date of their application
- Have maintained a primary residence in the City of Rockland for the 10 years immediately preceding the application deadline.
- Have received the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit in the most recent tax year
- Not be delinquent on payment of property taxes to the City of Rockland, or in payment of rent for their primary residence as of the date of this application.
- Have a household income that does not exceed 100% of Knox County's median income adjusted for household size, as most recently published by the Maine State Housing Authority as of the date of application.
- For Household of 1: $70,000
- For Household of 2: $80,000
