The Camden Hills Windjammer Girls Soccer teams soared into tremendous victories over Edward Little High School on Friday, Sept. 11. The Jammers, earning two previous wins, were confident heading into this face-off against the Red Eddies.

The game kicked off with the Jammers wearing red, and within the opening 10 minutes, Freshman No. 3, Remi Caton, hammered one hard into the back of the net. Only a few minutes later, Junior Captain No. 13, Eve Domareki, played a short corner to receive it quickly back, and released a beautiful shot just within the 18-yard box.

For the Jammers’ third goal, Junior captain No. 2, Maia Andrews, left her usual position of centerback, to make an overlapping run over teammate Eve Domareki. Andrews received the ball at the Eddies back line and charged forward to the net, swiftly making the score 3-0.

Assisted by Eve Domareki, Sophomore Captain No. 5, Liv Domareki, made a long run to receive from her sister and score another goal for the Jammers. With another impressive defensive line play, centerback and Sophomore No. 16, Nathalie Nelson, beat the Red Eddies’ defense with a through ball to Senior captain No. 7, Thea Laukka, who had no problem finishing the run with the ball in the back of the net.

With the score at 5-0, the Jammers did not give up, and instead found Freshman No. 19 Katalina Kriste’s feet outside the 18-yard box, and a powerful shot was fired, and landed perfectly in the opposing goal.

To finish the game early due to the mercy rule, Remi Caton had no problem finding the net with the last two goals, earning the first hat trick for herself, and ending the game at 8-0 in favor of the Jammers.

The Junior Varsity Windjammers matched the tempo of the Varsity team. Freshman No. 19, Katalina Kriste kicked off the scoring early on after sneakily getting past the opponent’s back line. Edward Little quickly retaliated with a goal off of a free kick to tie the score at 1-1. However, Sophomore No. 25, Margaret Garrigan reclaimed the Windjammers’ lead with a striking shot from far out.

Garrigan was joined by two of her other teammates on the scoreboard later in the game. Sophomore No. 9, Rowan Witbeck contributed with two fantastic goals, and Freshman No. 4, Colette Nowak earned an astonishing hat trick, including a wonderful goal off of a corner kick, to ensure the win for her team.

Both of the Jammers played an amazing game consisting of quick passes and strict defense to earn themselves another win in the books.

The coming week for Camden Hills poses more important games versus Brunswick High School, as well as Bangor High School.

The Windjammers will play next against Brunswick on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Brunswick High School.

The Jammers will face off against the Bangor Rams on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., at Camden Hills, for their Homecoming game. Get out to see both of these fantastic teams in season.
