Belfast baseball mercy-rules Mount View

BELFAST — The Belfast varsity baseball team hosted Mount View in a Monday, May 13 showdown. 

The host Lions collected a mercy-rule 18-8 victory over the visiting Mustangs in six innings. 

Belfast improved with the win to 6-3, while Mount View dropped to 2-7. 

Belfast plated one run in the third inning, nine in the fourth, six in the fifth and two in the sixth. 

Mount View plated one in each the first, third and fourth innings, on top of three in the second and two in the fifth. 

Belfast collected 19 hits and committed four errors, while Mount View tallied six hits. 

On the mound for Belfast were Dakota Payson (4.2 innings, three strikeouts) and Chris Kelley (1.1 innings, three strikeouts). 

Among those who took the mound for Mount View was Neal Kenney (4.1 innings, two strikeouts). 

Contributing to the Belfast offense were were Sam Davis (three hits), Jason Bartlett (three hits), Payson (three hits), Kelley (five RBIs) and Luke Hamlin (home run). 

Contributing to the Mount View offense were Logan Curtis (two RBIs) and Darrett Fowler (two RBIs). 

Up next for Belfast will be a road contest against Mount Desert Island on Tuesday, May 14. 

Up next for Mount View will be a road contest against Maranacook on Wednesday, May 15.
