Oceanside baseball narrowly tops Belfast

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside varsity baseball team hosted Belfast in Rockland for a Tuesday, May 21 showdown. 

In the end, Oceanside narrowly defeated Belfast 6-4. 

With the victory, Oceanside boosted its record to 4-9. 

With the loss, Belfast dropped to 7-6. 

Up next for Oceanside will be a home contest against Camden Hills on Wednesday, May 22 at 4 p.m.

Up next for Belfast will be a home contest against Mount Desert Island on Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m.

Belfast plated one run in the third inning and three in the fourth inning, while collecting six hits and committing two errors. 

Oceanside plated one run in the fourth frame and five in the fifth, while recording five hits and three errors. 

Working the mound for Belfast were Jason Bartlett (four innings, five strikeouts), Chris Kelley (one inning, two strikeouts), Dakota Payson (one inning) and Tanner Veilleux (one inning). 

Pitching for Oceanside were Nate Coombs (four innings, three strikeouts), Ben Ripley (one inning, three strikeouts) and Maguire LeBlanc (two innings). 

Among Belfast’s offensive contributors were Veilleux (two singles), Kelley (single, RBI), Bartlett (RBI) and Samuel Davis (two singles, run). 

Among Oceanside’s offensive contributors were Alec Sirois (double), LeBlanc (single, RBI), Ripley (single, RBI), Uriah Thongsophaphone (double, two RBIs).
