Cony baseball edges Oceanside in 13 innings

AUGUSTA — The Oceanside varsity baseball team found itself playing another extra innings contest Friday, May 20 just days after falling to Waterville in extras. This time, the Mariners were on the road challenging Cony in Augusta. 

The low-scoring affair took 13 innings to determine a winner with the hosts capturing a 2-1 victory to extend its record to 12-1 and drop Oceanside’s to 4-8. 

Oceanside plated its lone run of the contest in the fifth inning while Cony scored once in the first and 13th innings. 

The visiting Mariners recorded two hits, committed five errors and stranded seven runners on base. Cony, meanwhile, tallied eight hits, four errors and 10 stranded runners. 

Pitching for Oceanside were Jacob Watkinson (nine innings, one earned run, four hits, four strikeouts, one hit-by-pitch) and Gavin Ripley (three innings, one earned run, four hits, two strikeouts). 

Working the mound for Cony were James Presti (five innings, one run, one hit, nine strikeouts, one walk), Kam Douin (seven innings, one hit, 13 strikeouts, two walks) and Landon Foster (one inning, two strikeouts). 

Notable hitters for Cony were Kam Douin and James Presti, each recording a double.
