Oceanside-Waterville baseball contest, again, needs extra innings to determine winner

ROCKLAND — The varsity baseball teams for Waterville and Oceanside met for the second time this season, and once again the two programs had to duke it out longer than anticipated in extra innings to determine a victory. 

After Waterville earned a narrow 3-2 victory in 11 innings in April, Waterville once again emerged victorious Wednesday, May 18 with a 5-2 victory in 10 innings. 

Waterville plated one run in the first and third innings before tallying three in the top of the 10th frame. Oceanside, meanwhile, scored its two runs in the third inning. 

Oceanside recorded 11 hits, committed three errors and abandoned 17 runners on base. Waterville, meanwhile, had six hits, one error and nine stranded runners. 

Pitching for Oceanside were Austin Chilles (seven innings, two runs, one earned run, two hits, nine strikeouts, three walks) and Connor Calderwood (three innings, three earned runs, four hits, five strikeouts, two walks). 

Working the mound for Waterville were Gage Hubbard (six innings, two runs, one earned run, six hits, nine strikeouts, four walks, two hit-by-pitches) and Joe Hamelin (four innings, five hits, one strikeout, three walks). 

Notable hitters for Oceanside included Taygen McAllister (three singles), Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (two singles) and Jacob Watkinson (single, double). 

Notable hitters for Waterville included Elais Nawful (double) and Joe Hamelin (double).
