Belfast baseball slides past Mount Desert Island

BELFAST — The Belfast varsity baseball team hosted Mount Desert Island on Thursday, May 23 for a contest. 

The host Lions earned a 4-2 victory to improve its record to 8-6. 

Up next for Belfast will be a pair of road trips to close out the regular season. The Lions will travel to Erskine Academy on Friday, May 24 and to Camden Hills on Tuesday, May 28. 

Belfast plated two runs in the opening inning and one in each the second and fourth. 

Mount Desert Island recorded a pair of runs in the sixth frame. 

Belfast recorded nine hits, while Mount Desert Island recorded five hits and one error. 

Among Belfast’s offensive contributors were Jason Bartlett (three hits, RBI), Luke Hamlin (RBI), Dakota Payson (RBI), Samuel Davis (two hits) and Tanner Veilleux (two hits). 

Working the mound for the hosts were Christopher Kelly (six innings, two strikeouts) and Payson (one inning). 

Pitching for Mount Desert Island was Sam Keblinsky (seven innings, one strikeout).
