WARREN — Several investigators from the Fire Marshals Office are in Warren to take over the investigation started by Sheriff's deputies into a garage fire and outbuilding fire that occurred just after 10 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2025.
Warren, Union and Waldoboro firefighters were alerted to the fire and explosions at 10:07 a.m., at 259 Ridgewood Road, which is off of Oyster River Road. By the time they arrived, the garage fire was fully involved. With no closer water source, fire tankers trucked in water from the fire station.
The three bay garage is a loss, as well as at least one vehicle outside the garage, according to Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky. The area is closed to all bystanders for several hours. The house, approximately 25 feet away, had melted siding but did not create structural damage.
Just prior to the family reporting the fire, there was a report of suspicious activity at the residence. While holding the scene for the FMO, deputies worked with the family and neighbors to piece together what may have occurred prior to the fire and the several explosions that were reported.
Though it has yet to be verified, human remains were found at the scene, and FMO investigators will determine whether the death is suspicious.
KCSO issued for the following statement:
"We would like to acknowledge the collaboration of various agencies that assisted with the response, including the Maine State Fire Marshal, Maine State Forest Ranger, Warren Fire and Rescue, Waldoboro Fire Department, Union Fire Department, and Knox Regional Communications."
Waldoboro EMS was requested to respond to a separate medical call that occured while Warren Ambulance remained mandated at the scene.
The last remaining fire units returned to their station just prior to 2 p.m. At 2:18 p.m., Warren FD and Ambulance were called to the intersection of Western Road and Camden Road for a two- motor vehicle crash. One person was transported to the hospital, and the scene was cleaned up relatively quickly. Oyster River Towing hauled the vehicles away.
