"Rockland's Forests as a Lens on Maine's Changing Climate" talk by Dr. Ivan Fernandez
The Rockland Public Library presents UMaine Professor Emeritus Ivan Fernandez, Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to all.
This presentation will focus on our changing climate and implications for Rockland's forests both as treasured natural resources and climate solutions. The group will use the forest lens to also consider relevant findings from the 2024 Maine climate science assessment developed by the Maine Climate Council's Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STS). The STS provides an up-to-date assessment of the relevant science about climate change in Maine every four years prior to the development of the Maine Climate Action Plan quadrennial update as required by law.
There will also be a brief discussion of the 2024 quadrennial update of the Maine Climate Action Plan 'Maine Won't Wait 2.0' and its seven overarching strategies for Maine action on greenhouse gas mitigation, climate adaptation, and building resilience in our communities and ecosystems.
Dr. Ivan Fernandez retired as the Distinguished Maine Professor of Soil Science in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Maine in 2023.
