Margaret Mary Agnes Kiley, obituary
THOMASTON — Margaret Mary Agnes Kiley, 74, of Thomaston, Maine, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2024, with her two children at her side.
Margaret Mary was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 8, 1950. She lived in Chester, Pennsylvania with her parents, Margaret Mary Kiley (nee Black) and James Martin Kiley, three sisters, and younger brother through her childhood and young adult years. She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School in Chester, Pennsylvania in 1967, moved to Midcoast Maine in 1970, and graduated from University of Maine Augusta in 1974 with an Associates Degree in Nursing. She married Paul Ackerman of Martinsville, Maine in the fall of 1980, they had two children together.
She worked as an OB/GYN nurse at Knox Hospital and Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine for four decades, assisting numerous parents and families bring new life into the world. She continued caring for her community well into retirement as a member of the Nurses Guild, and a volunteer with the Rockland chapter of the Make-A-Wish foundation, the American Lighthouse Association and Trekker’s Pedal-To-The-Port Events.
She was an avid swimmer, baker, gardener, and a keen landscape and nature photographer. She adored the early morning “blue hour” just before sunrise, and the contemplative silence and solitude along with it. She was warmth and kindness and an utterly irreverent sense of humor incarnate. There was no story that couldn’t be improved in the hundreth telling, and no holiday party was complete without her French Chocolate Pie. The world is a colder place without her laughter.
Margaret Mary is survived by her two children, Alice and Daniel, and all four siblings: Maryann, Kathleen, Joan, and James.
There will be a private family memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Trekkers Foundation or The Make-A-Wish Foundation in Margaret’s honor.
