THOMASTON — Allen Andrew Carter, 70, passed away in his home after a period of declining health on Sunday, September 12, 2021. His beloved wife of 52 years, and loving caretaker, Barbara, was at his side.

Born November 20, 1950, in Rockland to Arthur A. and Edna P. (Stanley) Carter, he was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Georges Valley High School, class of 1969.

Shortly after graduating, he married his sweetheart, Barbara Morse, on June 27, 1969. They created a loving home in Thomaston where they would go on to welcome two beautiful daughters, Debra and Amy.

Allen had a strong work ethic and worked hard his whole life. He only retired recently due to his illness. To him, his family was his priority and his hard work made sure they were provided for. Allen took great pride in everything he did, but his true pride and joy were his family, and he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them.

Allen was a well-known painter and carpenter who worked with many people and businesses over the years. During those years, he became close, lifetime friends with Jim Sukeforth, Fred Watmough and Scott “Skippy” Mansfield. These men became like brothers to him, and they always had each other’s backs.

Allen absolutely loved to fish, and a lifelong dream of his was to have a camp where he could go and enjoy his favorite pastime. His dream became a reality 5 years ago when he and Barbara purchased and completely renovated a camp on North Pond in Warren. He cherished his time there with family and friends.

Bowling was another of his favorite things to do as evidenced by the many trophies he won over the years.

He was simply a man who worked hard, paid great attention to detail in everything he did, and held an unwavering love for his family.

Predeceased by his father, his brother Arthur “Bubby” Carter, his sister, Melissa Hilliard, his sister in-law, Susan Sims, his father and mother in-law (who he loved as his own parents) Richard and Vera Morse.

He is survived by his mother, Edna Carter of Rockland; his wife, Barbara Carter of Thomaston; his daughters, Debra White of Hermon, and Amy Wiggin and her husband Steven of Thomaston; his grandchildren, Colby White and his partner, Fayth Jacques of Augusta, Cassidy Boynton, and Emily Boynton both of Thomaston; and his sisters, Elizabeth Fernands and her husband Frank of Martinsville, Laura Jean Corbett and her husband David of Bellingham, Massachusetts, Cynthia Landre of Warren; his brothers-in-law Clarence Morse of Owls Head, Jeffrey Morse and his wife Maura of Thomaston; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Bowman of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Gena Ahlberg and her husband Scott of Sidney.

Allen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Allen will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 1 p.m., at the Thomaston Baptist Church, 212 Main Street in Thomaston with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. A reception at the church will follow the service.

Burial will be private.
