Event Date
Saturday, September 12, 2026 - 04:00 pmSEARSMONT — A community contra dance will be held Sept. 12, at 4 p.m., on the Searsmont Town Library lawn, at 37 Main St. South, in Searsmont. The dance and potluck mark the culmination of this year’s “Live Outside the Library” music series.
Pat Danscen will lead the program, sharing the uniquely joyful traditions of contra dance, from do-si-dos and promenades to partner swings, according to Belfast Flying Shoes, in a news release. Live music provided by John Pranio on fiddle, Toki Oshima on guitar, and the Flying Shoes All Comers Band. All musicians are invited to bring an instrument and join the band.
A unique cultural tradition, this intergenerational and chem-free program welcomes new dancers and experienced folks alike. Everyone is welcome to dance, play, listen, or do all three, with a potluck supper after the dance. (Rain location in the library’s community hall.)
“Live Outside the Library” programs are free to the general public thanks to a grant from the Onion Foundation and additional support from Belfast Flying Shoes, the Friends of Searsmont Library, and the fundraising efforts of the Library’s Board of Trustees.
