Back to school is a time of new beginnings. For students and families, it’s a time filled with enthusiasm (and maybe some anxiety) about starting a new grade or a new school. For educators and staff, back to school is filled with excitement as they welcome new students and reconnect with those they already know. 

This school year marks another new beginning as our community and schools welcome a new superintendent. A distinguished educator and education leader, I’ve gotten to know Dr. Leigh Anne Neal as someone who brings deep knowledge about student learning to the role and who has a leadership style focused on connection, collaboration, and communication. I’m excited to see what she and our tremendous group of educators are able to accomplish together. 

I want to wish all of our educators, students, and families a wonderful start to the new school year. It was a tremendous honor to serve two terms on our school board. And while I’m no longer a board member, I’ll continue to be a vocal champion for our students, schools, and educators and the policies we need to help all children thrive.
