Veterans Day Ceremony in Rockland, Nov. 11
The Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1 of Rockland will be holding its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, 11 November, at 11 a.m., the traditional date and time. The ceremony will be held in Winslow-Holbrook Park at the corner of Park and Main streets, the opposite corner from the big flag.
The members and officers of Post No. 1 invite area citizens and all veterans and their families to attend the ceremony in order that they may be recognized for their service and also to honor their comrades who are no longer with us.
Lead-in music, beginning at 10:45 a.m., and music throughout the ceremony, will be provided by the Bay Winds North music ensemble under the direction of Marlene Hall. Students from Oceanside Middle School, under the direction of Molly Kaye, will be performing during the ceremony. Rockland's former poet laureate, Carol Bachofner, will once again present a poem honoring veterans written especially for this year's ceremony. Roger Wadford, former Post No. 1 Commander, will also present poems written for the occasion.
Included in the program will be a brief history of Winslow-Holbrook Park presented by Gaye Best who with the assistance of her granddaughter will be placing a wreath in honor of all veterans in front of the park's stone marker.
After the ceremony, at 12 p.m., the Ladies Auxiliary of Post No. 1 will be putting on their traditional Veterans Day Luncheon which is free to all veterans.
In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be held inside at the Post No. 1 function room at 335 Limerock Street. Questions concerning the ceremony should be directed to Dave Sulin via cell phone 207-975-3670.
