Speeding driver charged after eluding police in Owls Head, Rockland, Thomaston
On September 25, 2025 at approximately 08:10 a.m., Knox County deputies attempted to stop a white GMC pickup truck in the area of Ingraham Drive in Owls Head. According to Knox County Sheriff Pat Polky, the stop was initiated for multiple law violations, including fleeing from law enforcement during an arrest attempt several days prior.
The GMC failed to stop, and led law enforcement through Rockland and Thomaston, including Rockland's south Main Street, Pleasant Street, and along Old County Road into Thomaston.
The GMC eventually began operating in an unsafe manner and deputies disengaged, according to Polky. Law enforcement, however, continued to keep an eye out for the vehicle.
The KCSO posted a picture of the GMC to its Facebook page, knowing that the plates did not match the vehicle. The GMC was located a short time later on Mountain Road in Rockland, leading "law enforcement, including a law enforcement K9, to saturate the area and search for the operator and any passengers," said Polky.
Shane R. Jones, 37, of South Thomaston, was charged with Eluding Law Enforcement, Driving to Endanger, Reckless Conduct, Criminal Speeding, Failure to Submit to Arrest, Criminal Trespassing, Violation of Conditions of Release, Operating After Suspension, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Improper Passing, and Attaching False Plates. Jones was also served with warrants for his arrest from previous law enforcement encounters.
Jasmine Young, 31, of South Thomaston, was charged with Hindering Apprehension and Violation of Conditions of Release.
The KCSO was assisted by Knox County Regional Communications Center, Rockland Police Department, Thomaston Police Department, Maine Marine Patrol, and Creek Hill Towing.
Jones and Young were booked into the Knox County Jail for their charges.
"We feel it is important to remind the public that all people accused of crimes are considered innocent until proven guilty through legal process," said Polky.
