Rockport Harbor Resiliency Plan organizers convene last meeting to review proposed vision for public waterfront
Join the Rockport Strategic Task Force’s public meeting for the unveiling of the final recommendations from the Richardson & Associates/WSP Engineering team for the Rockport Harbor Concept Plan, July 29 at the Rockport Opera House.
This plan is to provide information on what Rockport can do to reduce flood risk while enhancing the working waterfront, as well as at Marine and Walker parks.
The July 29 event is the final public meeting, ending the Spring/Summer series of public meetings/workshops that provided the information to create this Harbor Concept Plan.
The meeting will be streamed live and a recording will be available here.
The strategic planning process for the the publicly owned parks and the commercial waterfront was initiated later last winter, under the purview of the Harbor Strategic Task Force. The Task Force was created to address the long-term future of Rockport Harbor’s working waterfront and public access areas in the face of ongoing sea level rise, which is anticipated to accelerate in the coming decades, according to a news release from the town office.
The Task Force consists of 10 Rockport residents with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Members include fishermen, as well as members of the Rockport Boat Club, Parks Committee, Harbor Committee, and Conservation Commission. Expertise includes Island Institute involvement, as experience in the marine contracting industry, filmmaking and the world of physics.
At the recommendation of the Task Force, Rockport retained the Saco-based landscape architects Richardson and Associates (and its partner, the Portland office of the engineering firm WSP) to develop recommendations on resilience options to address sea level rise, as well as consider and protect both the current and future uses of the harbor.
