Rockland to host Community Plate Story Sharing with 'A Rising Tide' potluck
Community Plate, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to building community through shared meals and story telling, announced a partnership with Fostering Community Conversations in Rockland, to bring a Story Sharing Potluck to Rockland, on Thursday, November 6, at 5:30 p.m.
The evening event, Story Sharing Potluck Supper: “A Rising Tide” is to assemble community members for an evening of shared food, storytelling, and connection at the Steel House in Rockland. The free event is part of Community Plate’s statewide series of Story Sharing Potluck Suppers, which are gatherings designed to bring people together across generations, backgrounds, and perspectives to celebrate a shared humanity through food and stories.
"Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, community collaboration uplifts all who live, work, and serve in the region," said a news release from Community Plate. "Through shared stories and a shared meal, participants will explore the ways neighbors, organizations, and local leaders are working together to build a more connected, compassionate, and civically engaged community."
“On November 6, we’ll begin an ongoing conversation — one that celebrates the creative, generous, and hopeful spirit of the Rockland area,” said Community Plate co-founder Karl Schatz, in the release. “When we gather around food and stories, we build empathy, strengthen relationships, and remind ourselves that we belong to each other."
Participants are encouraged to take a dish with a story, perhaps a family recipe, a meal with cultural roots, or a dish that carries personal meaning. During the dinner, guests will share stories around their tables about community, and after dessert, enjoy a live storytelling performance by community members and practiced storytellers.
Following the event, Community Plate will compile recipes and stories from the evening into a mini-community cookbook, which will be shared with all attendees as a keepsake and celebration of the community created that night.
The Rockland Story Sharing Potluck Supper is part of Fostering Community Conversations in Rockland, an initiative bringing residents, organizations, and providers together to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue, shared meals, and accessible spaces for connection and community problem-solving.
The gatherings, with more community events planned in 2026, aim to uplift creative ideas and solutions that support health, resilience, and belonging across the Midcoast, the release said.
While bringing food is encouraged, it is not required, and all are welcome. Registration is free, and participants can support future events with optional donations to Community Plate.
