Midcoast Recreation Center (MRC) will reveal the first completed phase of its expansion project on October 11, 2025, at 4 p.m. MRC will host a ribbon cutting for the new lobby spaces and dedication of the tennis facility followed by a free Community Day celebration open to the public featuring open skating, tennis and pickleball games, activities, prizes, a chili contest, food, face painting, dunk tank, and much more.

“The concept for this expansion began several years ago," said Grace Chen, MRC’s executive director. "Since then, so many employees, MRC board members, community volunteers, and contractors have been involved in getting it to this point: the launch of the first of three phases. We are so excited for this newly-renovated interior and how it will flow into the new Pickleball building, (phase 2 coming in winter ‘25-’26), and support the year-round population of kids and adults that will be enjoying the Eric Lee Memorial tennis courts by summer next year (phase 3 coming in June 2026).” 

The event kicks off the final fundraising phase of the whole project, inviting the broader community to help build a healthier, connected future for the Midcoast region.

This event marks the first milestone in the full expansion project and will be followed by the opening of the new pickleball center this winter and the outdoor tennis courts in the spring.
