Mid-Coast Recreation Center to participate in 'Rally Against Cancer' tennis initiative
Mid-Coast Recreation Center, in Rockport, is one of several clubs in Maine participating in “Rally Against Cancer” this September. This inaugural tennis initiative aims to raise funds for cancer charities while increasing awareness "around a disease that touches us all," according to Rally Against Cancer founder Seth Meyer, Tennis Director at MRC .
“I am a cancer survivor, and the tennis community both near and far was instrumental in getting me and my family through our most difficult time,” said Seth Meyer.
Meyer is ready to pay it forward to other families experiencing cancer through the sport he loves.
Featuring a variety of tennis event formats determined by each club, Rally Against Cancer convenes tennis players across the state and beyond to showcase the power of this sport’s community. Participating clubs in Maine include the Mid-Coast Recreation Center in Rockport, Apex Racket & Fitness in Portland, The Woodlands Club and Foreside Fit in Falmouth, Maine Pines in Brunswick, KVTA in Augusta, The Boothbay and CLC YMCA’s, Armstrong Tennis in Hampden, Champions in Waterville and Aroostook Tennis in Presque Isle. In Massachusetts, Montoya Tennis in Tewksbury and Bellevue Golf & Tennis are running events. And, in Florida, the Boulevard Padel and Tennis Club will be participating.
"Expect fun competition, opportunities to meet fellow tennis enthusiasts and cancer survivors, and a chance to contribute to an important cause," said Meyer
Proceeds will go towards the Dempsey Center, a statewide cancer support organization started by Mainer Patrick Dempsey. Proceeds will also go to The Midcoast Villager’s Cancer Cafe “Gifts of Love Fund,” which supports local families navigating a cancer diagnosis, and Maine families in need.
"Together, we can make a difference on the court and off," said Meyer.
