Lyman-Morse hires Ronnie Simpson
CAMDEN — Professional sailor, offshore veteran, and sailing journalist Ronnie Simpson has joined the Lyman-Morse Brokerage Division.
"Based in Portland, Maine, Ronnie’s appointment marks an exciting expansion of Lyman-Morse’s brokerage presence beyond its existing offices in Camden and Northeast Harbor," said Lyman-Morse, in a news release.
Simpson brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to yacht brokerage. A professional sailor with over 175,000 nautical miles at sea, Simpson’s maritime journey began after he was seriously wounded in combat as a U.S. Marine in Iraq at age 19. Sailing became both a passion and a calling, leading him to a career that spans the globe and a wide variety of roles in the sailing industry—from yacht rigger and racing yacht preparateur to offshore competitor and media professional.
His credentials include six transpacific races, extensive cruising throughout the Pacific—reaching destinations as distant as Fiji and New Zealand—and professional work as a delivery and charter captain. Simpson has lived aboard multiple cruising sailboats and spent years immersed in the hands-on, real-world challenges of life at sea.
Simpson is also a skilled communicator and storyteller, having earned a multimedia degree from Hawaii Pacific University. His journalistic work has appeared in major sailing magazines and websites, and he has covered premier sailing events and regattas around the world. Most recently, he sailed 80% of the way around the globe in the 2023–24 Global Solo Challenge aboard the Open 50 Shipyard Brewing, before dismasting off Argentina. He remains committed to offshore racing and has already acquired a Class 40 yacht to compete in the 2027–28 edition of the race.
"Ronnie's addition to our brokerage team brings exceptional value to our clients," said Drew Lyman, president of Lyman-Morse. "His deep background in performance yachts, offshore cruising, and racing provides unmatched insight and guidance to both experienced sailors and newcomers alike. Having him based in Portland allows us to better serve clients throughout southern Maine and beyond.”
