Lincoln Academy holds Eighth Grade and Prospective Student Open House
All prospective high school students are invited to Lincoln Academy’s 2025 Prospective Student Open House, which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. The event will begin in the Nelson Bailey gymnasium on the Lincoln Academy campus, at 81 Academy Hilll in Newcastle.
The annual open house is an opportunity for families of prospective students to visit the LA campus, meet teachers and staff, and tour the school. Often this event is the first time students see their soon-to-be high school and meet future teachers and current students. Although most families who attend represent incoming 9th graders, families of students interested in transferring to LA from another high school, or homeschoolers interested in exploring options at LA, are also encouraged to attend.
Any student living in a town with secondary school choice can attend Lincoln Academy with their tuition paid by the sending town. LA also accepts tuition-paying students who come from towns without school choice.
This year, Lincoln Academy’s Prospective Student Open House will begin with a welcome presentation by current students and members of the Administration and Career and Academic Counseling Office. Next, families can take a campus tour with student tour guides, and visit an academic fair in the LA Dining Commons, where faculty and students are available to answer questions about their specialties.
“The Lincoln Academy Fall Open House is the first in a series of events designed to help students and families explore what LA has to offer,” said Hilary Petersen, Associate Director of Admissions. “Our goal is to offer helpful information about our academic and extracurricular programs, and answer initial questions that families have about the enrollment process. For many students and parents, walking the halls and meeting faculty is the first step in becoming comfortable with the high school transition.”
Families considering Lincoln Academy should plan to attend the Open House, even if they are looking at several options for high school. No RSVP is necessary.
This event is helpful in understanding the wide variety of resources at LA, including 145 total courses, 20 Advanced Placement classes, 34 classes in visual and performing arts, a broad range of hands-on courses in the Cable-Burns Applied Technology and Engineering Center (ATEC), as well as over 40 clubs and athletic teams, according to the school.
