Homeworthy is gifted two buildings, one in Rockland, the other in Rockport
Homeworthy, formerly known as the Knox County Homeless Coalition, has acquired two buildings, both donated to the nonprofit from supporters.
"This incredibly generous, anonymous gift assures that the Homeworthy team can continue to focus on the critical needs of this community, with a space that will safely support this work," said the organization, in a news release.
In Rockport, a former home at 618 West Street will become the new headquarters for Homeworthy’s administrative team and client services.
Homeworthy’s family shelter will remain in full operation on Old County Road.
"After 11 years in existence, Homeworthy faced difficult space realities; with a growing team and aging buildings, the need for office space was at a critical level," the organization said. "However, at every juncture of planning, the Homeworthy Board and staff opted to focus resources into affordable housing and sustaining critical programming, as the needs of the community always take precedence."
In addition to the office space in Rockport, Homeworthy has also acquired 77 Park Street in Rockland.
“Receiving the gift of this building is a milestone moment,” said Molly Feeney, Executive Director of Homeworthy, in a news release. “We are profoundly grateful to the donor for this extraordinary act of kindness, which ensures that we can continue to grow our services and reinforces to our clients and the community that we are here for the long haul.”
The building was gifted in memory of Joel Goode, a generous bequest from his estate, honoring his commitment to equity and youth, said Homeworthy.
The management team at Rockland Service Plaza has been instrumental in seeing this gift come to fruition. This will be the first step in a multi-phase project to expand and renovate The Landing Place, Homeworthy’s youth services arm. This building will allow programming to continue without disruption when renovation at the current location gets underway. Its close proximity to the existing drop-in center will afford long-term and essential expansion of multi-purpose spaces. Homeworthy and The Landing Place will continue to share plans as they take shape. This gift is a reminder of how critical this program is to this community, and reinforces the commitment of this organization to keep showing up for local youth.
“This building donation brings both stability and a long-term vision for our youth programming,” said Joseph Hufnagel, Director of The Landing Place. “We are deeply grateful to the donor whose generosity makes this possible. Their gift ensures The Landing Place will continue to be a safe, welcoming space for local young folks for years to come.”
