Lauren M. ‘Lolly’ Barnes, obituary
THOMASTON — Lauren M. ‘Lolly’ Barnes, 75, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Born in Rockland, December 7, 1949, she was the daughter of Paul ‘Mutty’ and Gwendolyn ‘Cubby’ Dean Korhonen. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Georges Valley High School.
Lolly began her working career at First National Stores, before moving into the banking industry, working first at Depositors Trust. Returning to retail for a time, she worked at Barnes Market where she met the owner son, Perry. They hit it off and the two were married on June 18, 1989. She later went to work at Androscoggin Bank, working her way up to branch manager. Next Lolly took her management skills to Webber Oil in Cadmen where she worked until retiring in 2011.
Lolly loved nothing more than being with and caring for her family. Together with Perry, she enjoyed time at their camp up North, surrounded by so many family members they eventually had to build a second camp to accommodate everyone. One of her favorite things to do was to feed people. She was known for the delicious hot batches of breakfast sandwiches, each one better than the last. Often, she sent more than 40 sandwiches with her husband for his crew at work, or provided them to her family at camp.
An avid crafter, she spent countless hours making beautiful handmade quilts for her family members, many of whom put in special requests that she happily fulfilled. Handmade Christmas stockings were also another beloved gift. When not busy supporting her own family, she quietly took care of others as well. For many years she sponsored families at Christmas, making sure they had gifts for the children and items they needed.
Always active, Lolly and Perry enjoyed hiking, camping, and riding their four-wheelers and side-by-sides. Lolly will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her parents; and her granddaughter, Aubrey Malburg in 1995; Lolly is survived by her beloved husband, Perry Barnes of Thomaston; her sons, Jerrold ‘Jerry’ Johnson and his wife Tricia of Thomaston; Michael Ladd of Old Town; her brother, Ronald Korhonen of Cushing; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family from Rockland to Sweden and Finland.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Village Cemetery, Erin Street, Thomaston.
