'Animal Alchemy' quilt exhibit by Linda Shepard in Lincolnville
The United Christian Church (UCC) will host “Animal Alchemy,” an exhibit of quilt art by Linda Shepard, from August 24 - September 14 in the Community Building, 18 Searsmont Road, Rt. 173, in Lincolnville Center.
Shepard's original collection of bold design fabric wall hangings features colorful creatures of the sea, land and air. Hundreds of pieces
of fabric compose each subject, much like making a mosaic.
“Part of the surprise and fun for me is experimenting with unlikely colors to create contrast and highlights," said Shepard. "Every color is acceptable. The technique encourages the freedom for a playful spontaneity, letting the design elements build intuitively, without a predetermined image. The process is endlessly absorbing and meditative. My hope is to create a textual and visual pleasure, sometimes dream-like, flamboyant or whimsical."
An opening reception will be held Sunday, August 24, 2-5 p.m. Other viewings by appointment. Call Linda at 207-785-4319.
Shepard is donating 10% of all sales to the ministries of the United Christian Church.
