Penobscot Bay Orchestra free concert: 'Pirates, Tangos, and a Little Night Music'
Join Penobscot Bay Orchestra for Pirates, Tangos, and a Little Night Music, a lively, family-friendly concert filled with music, energy, and community spirit.
PBO offers two opportunities to attend this concert: Saturday, Aug. 9, at 4 p.m., at Belfast Unitarian Universalist Church, 37 Miller Street, Belfast, Maine, 04915; and Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m., at John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, Maine 04843.
The centerpiece of the program features highlights from Gilbert and Sullivan’s beloved operetta The Pirates of Penzance—a comic adventure packed with wit and charm. Adding sparkle to the evening, the PBO Troubadours—a dynamic troupe of local singers led by Shannon Elliott and Sierra Lary—will take the stage for Pirates of Penzance, accompanied by the orchestra.
Also on the program, a rousing medley of sea shanties, passionate tangos by Astor Piazzolla, and Mozart’s timeless Eine kleine Nachtmusik.
The Belfast concert opens with a special performance by students of PBO’s Youth Chamber Music Program. Led by Hannah Morris, this new initiative was launched this summer and continues into the fall. Through weekly workshops, young musicians come together to explore great music, develop their skills, and build lasting friendships. Thanks to generous support from the Penobscot Bay Orchestra and the Maine Community Foundation, tuition is kept low, and full scholarships are available.
Voluntary donations at the door will go directly toward supporting the Orchestra and its Youth Chamber Music Program.
