53rd Annual North Nobleboro Day, Aug. 9
On Saturday, August 9, the community of North Nobleboro will celebrate its 53rd annual North Nobleboro Day, a long-standing summer tradition that brings together friends, neighbors, and visitors for a day of food, music, and hometown spirit. Held each year on the second Saturday in August, the event takes place at the community grounds on Upper East Pond Road in North Nobleboro, three miles from Route 1 in Nobleboro or Route 32 in Jefferson. All are welcome to attend.
From the moment the booths open at 9 a.m., the grounds will be filled with the smell of barbecued chicken, the sounds of live music, and the lively bustle of families enjoying a classic Maine summer day, according to a news release. The country kitchen booths will offer a tempting array of homemade pies and doughnuts, freshly baked breads, cakes, baked beans, fudge, and more. There will also be hot dogs, sweet corn on the cob, French fries, Round Top ice cream, and soft drinks throughout the day.
The Trash & Treasures sale will once again be set up inside the Community Hall, offering a wide variety of gently used goods at bargain prices. Just outside the hall, local crafters will display a selection of handcrafted items. Visitors will also browse the growing number of items at the Silent Auction tent, now featuring over 50 donations. The auction will be open for bidding from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located next to the newly refurbished basketball and pickleball courts. Nearby, children’s games and prizes will keep younger visitors entertained.
Musical entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. with a performance by Debbie Myers and her band, Redneck Rodeo. A staple of the event, Myers returns for her 21st year. Twice honored as Best Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year by the Maine Academy of Country Music, she is known for her heartfelt tributes to country greats like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Reba McEntire. Following her performance, from 1 to 4 p.m., the acoustic duo No Spring Chickens will take the stage with original songs and fresh takes on folk, country, rock, and blues classics, all delivered with rich harmonies and guitar duets.
At 11 a.m., the chicken barbecue begins. A hallmark of North Nobleboro Day, the meal features a half chicken slow-cooked with a secret seasoning blend, served with coleslaw, a dinner roll, chips, and a beverage. The chicken dinners are available until sold out, "and they usually go fast, so visitors are encouraged to arrive hungry and early," said a news release.
North Nobleboro Day is organized by the North Nobleboro Community Association, which uses event proceeds to support a variety of local causes. Funds raised contribute to Nobleboro Central School, local fire departments, scholarships for Nobleboro students, and the maintenance of cemeteries, the Community Hall, and the basketball and pickleball courts.
Residents of North Nobleboro interested in contributing to the Silent Auction are encouraged to contact Pam Edwards, NNCA President, at 918-637-7398 or Holly Harlow, auction organizer, at 207-592-9941. Donations to the Trash & Treasures sale can be dropped off at the Community Hall on Saturday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., or Tuesday through Thursday, August 5–7, from 6 to 7 p.m. Please note that no donations will be accepted on Friday, August 8. All items must be clean and usable; large appliances, furniture, and exercise equipment cannot be accepted. Questions about Trash & Treasures may be directed to Tina O’Donnell at 207-380-3128.
