James Warren Jones , obituary
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, James Warren Jones passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife by his side.
Born in Brooksville, Jim lived a life full of love, laughter, service, and family. To know him was to smile. He had a way of making people laugh no matter the circumstance. Whether it was a quick-witted comment, one of his famous innuendos, or simply his larger-than-life personality, Jim brought joy to those around him until the very end.
Jim was a proud United States Marine who served during the Vietnam War from March 1, 1967, to October 20, 1971. He carried the title of Marine with honor every day of his life. “Semper Fi” wasn’t just something he said—it was who he was. His service earned him numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame.
Of all the roles he held throughout his life, being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather meant the most to him. He was endlessly proud of his family. His love for them was evident in every conversation, every story, and every gathering.
One of Jim’s happiest places was his camp in Mattawamkeag. It was there that many cherished memories were made—days filled with laughter, stories, family, and the simple joys of being together.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Salisbury-Jones. He also leaves behind his children: Michele, Michael, Mark, Melanie, Melissa, and Noreen; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored; and countless family members and friends whose lives are better because they knew him.
The loss of Jim leaves a space that can never truly be filled. He was the kind of man whose presence was felt the moment he walked into a room. He made people laugh harder, smile bigger, and feel instantly welcome. His family will carry forward the stories he told, the songs he sang, the lessons he taught, and the memories he helped create.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the countless lives he touched. We will think of him whenever we hear the Bee Gees, whenever a joke lightens a heavy moment, and whenever we gather together as a family.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 12 p.m., at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will immediately follow the service at the American Legion, 46 Griffin Street, Gardiner, ME 04345.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to support the care and services provided to our nation’s veterans. Donations may be made online through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Donation Portal.
Thank you, Dad, Grandpa, Marine, and friend. We will miss your laughter, your strength, your stories, and your love more than words can say.
Semper Fi. Until we meet again.
