James Montgomery Band brings blues to Camden Opera House
"The James Montgomery Band will fill the Camden Opera House with gritty grooves, harmonica fire and deep soul, Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m.," said the Opera House.
James Montgomery is a longtime New England musician but grew up in Detroit, where he learned first-hand from the masters – James Cotton, John Lee Hooker and Jr. Wells – at the legendary Chessmate Club. In his storied career, he has played, toured and recorded with many blues and rock greats including B.B. King, the Allman Brothers, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, J. Geils Band, Bonnie Raitt, Kid Rock and more.
After five years touring with the Johnny Winter Band, he left to focus on the James Montgomery Blues Band – one of the first New England acts to sell out stadiums in the mid 1970s, according to a news release.
At the height of the band’s popularity, his openers included The J. Geils Band and Boston.
"Montgomery still is a harmonica-wailing, soul-shouting powerhouse, a one-man blues revival," said the Opera House.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of show, via camdenoperahouse.com or (207) 236-3154.
