'Rout Cakes, Gruel, Muffins, and Toast: Food in Jane Austen's novels talk
The Rockland Public Library and the Jane Austen Society of North America, Maine Region will host Merry Post, Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1:30 p.m. Post will offer a talk discussing the many fascinating foods featured in the works of Jane Austen.
Merry Post worked in book publishing and in history museums. She leads a writers group at the Dorcas Library in Prospect Harbor. Post enjoys researching women’s diaries and writes a column for the Ellsworth American on 19th century New England recipes. Jane Austen is one of her absolute favorite writers.
The Jane Austen Society of North America was established in 1979 by Joan Austen-Leigh, Henry G Burke and J David Grey. The Society is a nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers and dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing. The mission is to foster among the widest numbers of readers the study, appreciation and understanding of Jane Austen’s works, her life, and her genius.
