Warren Historical Society presents the story of the Georges Valley Railroad on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m., at the Dr. Campbell House and Museum, at 225 Main St., Warren.
The attempt to link Maine Central Railroad in Warren to Union took 30 years of planning. Regular service began on November 30,1893. In the first year, the railroad carried 4.422 passengers, 15,558 tons of freight and the US mail.
This PowerPoint program by Jeff Nims of Union includes dozens of vintage photos and documents, plus some humorous stories about the men who worked on the railroad until November 30, 1932.
