Library talk: Ruth Robertson, photojournalist, correspondent, explorer
The Rockland Public Library will host Patricia Hubbard for a history talk on Thursday, August 21, at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to all.
Patricia Hubbard, of Thomaston, will describe the life and work of Ruth Robertson, a true “female Indiana Jones.”
Born in 1905, Ruth Robertson was determined to live an exciting life. She persevered through a childhood of poverty and became a photojournalist and explorer. Over her half-century-long career, she worked as a war correspondent, became the first woman news photographer allowed on the infield at Wrigley Field, and travelled to the North Pole. One of her greatest accomplishments was leading a successful expedition in 1949 through the jungles of Venezuela to Angel Falls, the world's tallest uninterrupted waterfall.
Patricia Hubbard became Robertson's literary executor in 1992. Visit her website at www.ruthrobertson.org for more information about this fascinating historical figure.
This program will take place in the Community Room. For more info or for Zoom links, email elewis@rocklandmaine.gov.
