Former Rockport Town Manager and Knox County Administrator Bill Post has died
Through an announcement from the City of Augusta, the public has learned that William Post, a longtime familiar face in municipal and county government across the state, has died.
Bill Post served as the Rockport Town Manager, as Knox County Administrator, as the County Administrator of Sagadohoc County, the Bowdoinham Town Manager, and more recently as Augusta's Assistant City Manager. He was also active as a Midcoast baseball umpire, and coached soccer.
In a statement, the City of Augusta said July 7:
"'Words cannot adequately express the loss we are feeling,' said City Manager Jared Mills. 'Bill was a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend to so many. His wisdom, compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to Augusta have left the city stronger than he found it. But perhaps his greatest lesson was that our work is only one part of who we are. Bill reminded us, every day, that our greatest accomplishments are found in our families, our friendships, and the people we love. He was immensely proud of his wife and children, and there wasn't a conversation that didn't include sharing one of their latest milestones or accomplishments. That perspective shaped the way he led and the way he lived. Our hearts are with his wife, son, daughter, and entire family during this incredibly difficult time.'
When he resigned, Rockport Select Board Chair Debra Hall said in a news release: "Bill has been an excellent Town Manager during the 20 months he has been at the helm. His financial skills and wealth of experience from previous leadership positions have been valuable to the Town. Although we regret his departure, we support him and his decision."
In 2019, Bill Post had shared his brief biography:
I have a B.A. in political science from the University of Southern Maine and a master's in public administration from the University of Maine, Orono. I have served as town manager in Bradley, Damariscotta and Waldoboro, as well as my current town of Bowdoinham, and as administrator for Knox County (all in Maine). I am finishing up eight years as town manager in Bowdoinham.
I have served on the Maine Municipal Associations' Legislative Policy Committee for the past nine years in two different communities, on the Midcoast Economic Development District Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the past 10 years, and on the Maine Council on Aging Task Force on Healthy Aging in Communities.
I also am a Certified Municipal Manager as certified by the Maine Town, City, County Management Association (MTCMA).
I live in Waldoboro with my wife, Jennifer, and two children, Wyatt, 18, and Taylor, 17, and two yellow labs.
In my spare time, I like to read, tend my vegetable garden, and travel. I am a baseball umpire for the Midcoast Umpire Association and umpire all levels, from Little League to varsity baseball. In the past, I coached youth baseball and soccer, and was president of the Medomak Valley Little League.
I appreciate the opportunity to manage the Town of Rockport and thank the Select Board for their confidence. Rockport is an amazing community and I look forward to working with the excellent team within the town's government.
