Belfast Police arrest suspect in Belfast smoke shop burglary, recover $11,000 in stolen merchandise

(photo courtesy of the Belfast Police Department.)Police have made an arrest following a burglary at a local smoke shop June 18, which is located at 67 Belmont Drive. The crime occurred sometime during the night while the business was closed, according to a July 1, press release from Belfast Police Chief Bobby Cormier.
Raymond Douglas Cohen, 37, believed to be transient, was arrested July 1, and charged with burglary, a class C felony. Cohen was reportedly found in possession of some of the stolen items when he was located in Orland.
Following additional investigation into a Belfast home, the rest of the stolen merchandise was located, for a total estimated value of $11,000.
Cohen is currently on state probation, with his probation revoked as a result of this arrest. He is currently being held at Waldo County Jail, according to the release.
Cohen’s first scheduled court appearance is August 19, at the Waldo County Unified Criminal courts.
Chief Cormier also thanked Sergeant Fitzpatrick, and Officers Harriman and Sanderson, “for their quick work and determination to bring this case to a close for the victims."
