Marshal D. Ames, obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Marshal D. Ames, who left this world on June 18, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on August 12, 1968, in Rockland, Maine, Marshal was a cherished father, son, brother, and friend. His journey through life was marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.
Marshal was a loving father to his children: Kaylee Ames of Rockport, Ashlynn Demmons and her husband, Grayson of North Haven, Jack Ames, who is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps, and Maxwell Kamai and his wife, Jessica of Nashville.
Marshal was the son of Elaine F. Ames-Brown and the late Maxwell D. Ames. He grew up alongside his sister, Marina D. Ames, who preceded him in passing.
Marshal had many cousins, extended family members, and many friends. He had a very close and meaningful relationship with his aunt, Carolyn Ames from Matinicus.
After graduating from high school, Marshal honored his country by serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1987 to 1989. His time in the Marines was a testament to his strength and dedication. His career spanned various roles, each demonstrating his versatility and work ethic. He worked many years as a sternman off the shores of Matinicus and as a landscaper for a family-owned business on North Haven. More recently, he found pleasure working on a construction crew on North Haven, where he worked alongside many friends.
Marshal was deeply involved in his community as a volunteer firefighter, always ready to serve and protect those around him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was known for always having a yellow lab by his side, Salty Dog and then Haven. He had a passion for history and genealogy and could often be found searching for arrowheads along the beaches or adding to his coin collection.
Marshal was known for his kindness and generosity. He touched the lives of many with his willingness to help anyone in need, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Marshal's memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society, located in Thomaston, Maine.
Marshal will be dearly missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known him.
A public celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 8, at 11:30 a.m., at Big Beach on North Haven.
